Apollo Display’s VideoPoster Technology Updates Parking Meters for the 21st Century

Apollo Display’s VideoPoster technology was recently selected by one of the UK’s largest parking meter suppliers, for integration into a new meter concept that will be deployed before the end of 2012. This new partnership promises to bring parking meters into the 21st century.

Apollo Display Technologies’ VideoPoster installed in a parking meter

It was last fall, when Apollo’s UK sister company, Display Technology Ltd., was displaying the VideoPoster at the Kiosk London 2011 Expo show that the parking meter supplier realized they had found the display solution they’d been seeking.

For use in the parking meters, Apollo’s VideoPoster was configured for a 10.1″ widescreen panel and a trigger playlist via a PIR (passive infrared sensor) motion sensor was added. Utilizing Apollo’s 10.1” projected capacitive touch sensor High Bright display (with an impressive 1000 nit luminescence perfect for use in bright sun); the screen shows 3rd party advertising. When a customer gets close to the meter, then PIR triggers an instructional playlist that displays parking rates. The meter was successfully launched in Amsterdam last month.

Several features of Apollo’s VideoPoster make it perfect for applications like parking meters. Constructed of high grade industrial components with no moving parts, the VideoPoster ensures long-term durability and reliability. It can also operate in portrait (vertical) or landscape (horizontal) mode. Additionally, the VideoPoster does not require a PC for content management, as content is uploaded via LAN (local area network) or memory stick/thumb drive and includes free software for content control. The powerful mediaplayer easily transitions between videos and pictures and supports multiple formats like MPEG4, MPEG2, JPEG, TIF, BMP and others The fact that there is no operating system (Microsoft Windows, Linux, etc.) enables maintenance-free operation.
